Comtech Group to Provide Construction Management Services for SURF! Busway for the Bus Rapid Transit Project
April 24, 2024
Comtech Group, part of Accenture, has been awarded the service contract for construction management of Monterey-Salinas Transit's (MST) SURF! Busway and Bus Rapid Transit Project. This initiative is designed to improve and modernize the regional transit network and aligns with MST’s larger vision to connect communities, create opportunity and be kind to our planet.
Carl Sedoryk, MST General Manager/CEO stated, “MST's vision for a regional bus rapid transit (BRT) system has been steadily realized, with the first phase, the JAZZ BRT, completed over a decade ago. Funded in part by Measure X—a retail sales tax approved by Monterey County voters in 2016—and supplemented by federal, state and local grant funding, the SURF! Busway and BRT Project represents the next phase in the evolution of the region's BRT network.”
Spanning approximately five miles from MST’s Marina Transit Exchange through Seaside and Sand City, SURF! provides a 4.8 mile zero-emission transit bus-only lane, a new transit center providing connections with existing transit lines, traffic signal prioritization and coordination, and improved bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. The project significantly enhances transit efficiency and accessibility for all community members, providing benefits to pedestrians and bicyclists, while easing congestion for automobile commuters.
"This project represents a significant undertaking by Monterey-Salinas Transit, which will shape the future of transportation in the region," said Elie Dagher, Vice President, Business Development at Comtech Group, part of Accenture. "Through our collaboration with Destination Enterprise and Harris & Associates, we look forward to delivering a transformative transit solution that meets the community's needs."
Comtech and its partners are diligently working towards timely and successful project delivery, with construction expected to finish in July 2026.
