Moltex Small Modular Reactor (SMR) Technology Development
Overview:
Moltex Energy Canada Inc. (Moltex) is developing a next-generation nuclear reactor that is small, simple, inherently safe and generates clean energy at a lower cost than fossil fuels. The reactor uses molten salt fuel in conventional assemblies. The fuel is made from recycled nuclear waste, minimizing the amount of waste in existence. Thermal storage tanks allow energy to be stored and dispatched as needed, complementing intermittent renewables such as wind and solar.
Comtech offers Project Management and Controls consultation to support Moltex's progress through the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission's Vendor Design Review process to realize deployment of their reactor design and fuel recycling technology. A preliminary evaluation of Moltex's Project Management Organization was carried out by our team, with process improvements implemented and ongoing Project Controls consulting provided for the Stable Salt Reactor – Wasteburner (SSR-W), WAste To Stable Salt (WATSS) and Managed Systems projects.
