Overview
The Pickering Nuclear Generation Station (PNGS), located in Pickering, Ontario just east of Toronto, is one of the largest generation stations in Ontario. The PNGS has played an essential role in delivering clean, reliable power for the communities. After years of efficient service, the PNGS will end commercial operations around 2024. Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is in the process of engineering and planning safe storage for the plant. A powerhouse of efficient energy generation, Pickering can be safely operated until 2024. Doing so will create savings of $600 million for Ontarians and avoid 17 million tonnes of carbon emissions. Continued operation of the Pickering Plant during refurbishments of other OPG facilities allows for a steady supply of power to Ontario.
