Overview
One of the world’s largest automotive manufacturer’s assembly plants was responsible for building multiple vehicle models which shared the same chassis. The assembly plant ran three shifts every day of the week to manufacture over 350,000 vehicles per year. The plant was tasked to produce an additional, low-volume model based on the same chassis.
Our client's existing manufacturing process was not capable of supporting the added build complexity and would require infrastructure retrofits. Due to a production model’s low volume, our client wanted to minimize additional capital infrastructure costs as much as possible. Based on our industry experience and expertise, the client selected Comtech as a strategic partner to identify, develop and implement a solution.
Our Services
The Comtech team worked with our global automotive manufacturing client to resolve its build management challenges in the provision of Project Management, Engineering and Technology services, including the following:
- Full-Scope Project Management and Control
- Manufacturing Process Improvement
- Production Material Coding and Sequencing
- Developing a Build Management / Build Visibility software solution that minimized part selectivity bank additions
- Providing plant scheduling and production tools to manage the new build program
All changes to support the added build complexity were made without any production interruptions to the high-volume models. Efficiencies gained through these engineering efforts resulted in capital infrastructure cost savings of $5 million.
