Automotive Manufacturing Environmental and Energy Management Program
Overview
Our client, a prominent global automotive manufacturer, set targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions and energy consumption throughout all facilities in Canada. If these targets were met, our client would be recognized as an Environmental Leader by a government-sponsored program and receive tax credits. Deliverables for the Environmental and Energy Management Program included:
- Monitoring, auditing and maintaining the Owner’s Environmental Management System, ensuring compliance with governmental regulations and ISO 14001 standards
- Creating air dispersion models to evaluate smokestack point of impingement VOC and greenhouse gas concentrations and eliminate potential non-compliance scenarios
- Developing waste stream maps to visualize how hazardous wastes, oils, fluid, recyclables and general wastes were created and moved throughout each plant
- Working with local waste collectors and recyclers as Owner’s Representative to increase efficiencies and reduce costs
- Identifying energy consumption wastes
- Developing and implementing a project execution plan for energy consumption improvements
- Providing engineering analysis support to resolve compliance issues
Our Services
As an integrated team and part of our client's facilities environmental group, Comtech was commissioned to maintain, monitor, and ensure environmental compliance for five (5) manufacturing facilities. Our consultant team performed the following environmental management services for the full lifecycle of the Environmental and Energy Management Program:
- Project Management and Control
- Environmental Risk Identification and Reduction
- Air and Noise Studies
- Water Discharge Reporting
- Emergency Response Planning
- National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) Compliance Monitoring and Reporting
- Waste Reduction Analysis
- Air Permit Reporting
- Air Dispersion Modeling
- Energy Management
- Greenhouse Gas Reporting
- Project Planning
Through these efforts, our client realized over $500,000 in annual recurring cost savings. Furthermore, our client was the only Automotive Manufacturer in Canada to be recognized as an Environmental Leader for the duration of the government sponsored program.
